Meghalaya: The Monsoon Trail

Day 01: Arrival at Guwahati Airport - Shillong (130 KM - 4/5 Hrs)

Your guided tour kicks off as you land at Guwahati Airport, the gateway to Northeast India. Our team representative will be waiting to welcome you, then You will board a tempo traveller and hit the road—leaving behind the city bustle and heading straight into the heart of Meghalaya.

As you begin the climb into the Khasi Hills, the scenery shifts fast. The air cools, mist rolls in, and the landscape explodes into shades of green. Roads wind through dense forests, and during the monsoon, clouds drift so low they almost brush your window. This is one of the wettest regions on Earth—and it shows. Waterfalls burst from cliff faces, streams spill across the road, and every turn reveals a foggy valley or a remote hillside village.

By the time you roll into Shillong, it’s clear you’ve entered something wild and alive. The town sits high among pine-covered hills, wrapped in cloud and monsoon magic. Meghalaya is stunning year-round, but in the rains, it transforms into a lush rainforest soaked in sound, colour, and energy. In the evening, Gather around for an orientation session where you will meet your tour manager and other fellow riders. Overnight stay in Shillong.

Expect narrow, winding roads, shifting clouds, and landscapes that seem straight out of a dream.

Your first destination is the stunning Krang Suri Waterfall, located in the Jaintia Hills. With turquoise-blue water and a dramatic forest backdrop, it’s one of the most photogenic waterfalls in the region. From there, you ride to Phe Phe Falls (also known as Phi Phi Falls)—one of the must-visits that involves a bit of light trekking through forest.

On the way back toward Shillong, the final stop is Laitlum Canyon—a vast cliffside viewpoint offering panoramic views of the East Khasi Hills. Depending on the weather, you might find it completely clear or completely engulfed in clouds—either way, it's a surreal experience. After soaking in the views, ride back to Shillong by evening. Day 03: Shillong - Mawphlang Forest - Cherrapunji (80 KM - 2/3 Hrs)

After breakfast, it's time to leave behind the bustle of Shillong and ride deeper into the hills. Today’s journey leads you to Cherrapunji, but the route is far more than just a transfer—it’s a passage through the cultural and natural heart of Meghalaya. Your first stop is the enigmatic Mawphlang Sacred Forest, one of the oldest and most spiritually significant groves in the Khasi hills.

This isn’t just a forest—it’s a living shrine. According to local Khasi belief, the forest is protected by a guardian spirit, and nothing—not even a fallen leaf—is allowed to be taken out. Stories tell of people who dared and suffered instant misfortune. Even today, the forest remains untouched. You’ll walk under towering monoliths, moss-covered stones, and ancient medicinal plants that locals believe still hold divine energy. The air feels different here—heavy, quiet, sacred.

From Mawphlang, the road climbs further into the clouds as you approach Cherrapunji - officially the second wettest place on Earth. Here, monsoon isn’t just weather—it’s a way of life. Expect dense fog, cascading roadside waterfalls, and dramatic gorges appearing out of nowhere. When you arrive in Cherrapunjee, you will find yourself surrounded by the raw power of nature at its peak. Overnight stay in Cherrapunji

A short drive takes you to Tyrna village, the trailhead for the Double-Decker Living Root Bridge trek. What follows is a 3,000-step descent into dense jungle, where paths turn slick with rain and the air buzzes with the sound of running water. Bamboo bridges sway gently, roots wrap around stones like ancient veins, and the forest feels alive in every sense. Built over centuries by Khasi villagers guiding tree roots across the river, this natural marvel is as magical as it is real.

Or After breakfast, we can visit the roaring Seven Sisters Falls, then head to Eco Park for sweeping views of the Bangladeshi plains, where monsoon clouds drift like waves. Wrap up with a walk through the Arwah Caves—a limestone maze filled with fossils, echoing chambers, and stories carved by time. Short walk, lasting memory.

On the way, you’ll stop at Elephant Falls, a beautiful waterfall hidden in the forest near Shillong. In Shillong, You will drop your motorcycles here, then via tempo traveller. Next, you’ll visit Umiam Lake, a huge, peaceful lake surrounded by pine trees. It's the perfect spot to relax, click group photos, and take in the quiet before heading into the city.

You share one last laugh over breakfast, exchange photos, hugs, and promises to ride again. What began as a group of strangers is now a crew connected by muddy boots, misty roads, and stories only the monsoon could write.
