PACKING & GEAR

Packing for a Supported Expedition

Because our backup van carries your heavy bags, you only need a small daypack on the bike.

Soft duffel for the van; light tank bag or backpack on the bike.
Keep ID, permits, cash, phone and a warm layer on your body always.
100% waterproof roll-top dry bags — mountain rain is constant.

The single biggest packing mistake riders make on a guided tour is packing like they're going solo. On a Dream Riders expedition your heavy luggage rides in our 4x4 support van every day — so the goal isn't to carry everything on the bike, it's to keep only what you need within arm's reach.

The two-bag system

  • Van bag (soft duffel, 50–70L): everything you don't need while riding — spare clothes, evening wear, toiletries, chargers, extra layers. Soft-sided so it stacks easily in the van.
  • Bike bag (tank bag or small backpack, 10–20L): documents, wallet, phone, camera, water, sunscreen, one warm layer and waterproofs — the things you reach for at every stop.
  • On your body, always: passport/ID, permits and cash.

Why it matters

You'll stop for photos, weather changes and permit checks constantly. Digging through panniers each time kills the rhythm of the day. Keep the day-bag light and let the van carry the rest.

Our tip: Use roll-top dry bags inside both bags. Himalayan expeditions can bring sudden weather changes within minutes, so river spray, rain and dust can quickly get into everything.
