Some stretches run 350km+ between pumps. Our van carries reserve fuel — but understand your range.
Key Riding Guidance & Highlights
In the Himalayas, running out of fuel isn't an inconvenience — it can strand you 100km from the nearest person. Understanding fuel range is essential even on a supported tour, where our van carries reserves.
Know your gaps
Some Himalayan stretches run 350km or more between reliable pumps. The famous one is the road toward Leh beyond Tandi — the old sign there warns that the next pump is hundreds of kilometres away.
The rules
- Know your bike's real-world range — it drops at altitude and on rough terrain
- Fill up completely at every hub town — Manali, Leh, Kaza, Srinagar — even if the tank is half full
- Remember that thin air and low gears burn more fuel than you expect
How we cover it
Our 4x4 support vehicle carries spare fuel on every remote stretch, so no Dream Riders rider is ever left stranded. We still plan every fuel stop meticulously — belt and braces.
Our tip: Top up whenever you see a working pump in the mountains. The next one might be closed, dry, or very far away—especially during remote Himalayan expeditions, where fuel stations can be few and far between.
