Rise and shine! Today’s ride promises a visual feast unlike any other. We will ride across the panoramic view of the himalayan ranges while passing through Bomdila and Dirang. We will make a stop at Sela pass, one of the most breathtaking mountain passes, located at an altitude of about 13,700 feet above sea level. The road leading to the mountain pass is towered by snow peaks, thick clouds often enveloping the pass, adding to its beauty.
At the heart of Sela Pass lies the Sela Lake, also known as Paradise Lake. This lake is surrounded by snow peaks, and remains frozen for most of the year. The lake is believed to be sacred by the local Monpa tribe.
The pass is not all about its raw beauty, it’s more about history and heroism. According to locals, Sela was a brave woman who, along with Jaswant Singh Rawat, an Indian Army soldier, defended the pass from Chinese forces during the 1962 Indo-China war. While the battle was fierce, Sela and Jaswant's bravery became the stuff of legend, with the pass named in her honor.
