Spiti & Pangi Valley: The Hidden Valleys Ride

Day 01: Arrival in Manali

Arrive in Manali, the gateway to the high Himalayas, and make your way to the hotel, where our team will welcome you and assist with check-in. Set amid deodar forests and framed by snow-capped peaks, Manali is the perfect place to slow down before the journey ahead.

The rest of the day is yours to relax, settle in and wander through Old Manali’s cafés or the lively Mall Road at your own pace.

In the evening, meet your fellow riders and tour team for a detailed tour briefing and safety orientation. Then comes the moment every rider waits for—the introduction to your motorcycle. Check the controls, adjust your mirrors and get familiar with your machine as the engine idles in the cool mountain air.

Tomorrow, the journey begins—twelve days through the hidden valleys of Himachal: Kinnaur, Spiti, Lahaul, Pangi and Chamba.

  • Unterkunft: Deluxe Hotel
  • Verpflegung: Dinner
Day 02: Manali – Jibhi ( 110 KM / 4-5 Hrs)

An easy first ride to settle into the rhythm of the mountains. Leave Manali and ride down the Kullu Valley alongside the Beas River, through apple orchards, riverside villages and pine-covered slopes.

Pass through the Atal Tunnel and turn off the highway towards Banjar, entering the quiet, forested valleys around Tirthan. The road narrows and winds gently uphill, the air grows fresher, and traditional wooden houses with slate roofs appear among the cedars.

Arrive in Jibhi, a peaceful hamlet tucked into the forest beside a gurgling stream. Spend the afternoon at your own pace—walk to the Jibhi waterfall, explore the village or simply relax to the sound of the river.

Enjoy a calm evening in the woods. Tomorrow, the road climbs over Jalori Pass and into the dramatic cliffs of Kinnaur.

  • Unterkunft: Deluxe hotel / Boutique stay
  • Verpflegung: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 03: Jibhi – Jalori Pass – Kalpa (230 KM / 8-9 Hrs)

An early start today, beginning with the steep climb to Jalori Pass, approximately 3,120 metres above sea level. Tight hairpins wind through dense forests of oak and deodar, and at the top, the views open across ridge after ridge of the outer Himalayas.

Descend through remote villages towards the Sutlej River and ride upstream past Rampur, once the seat of the Bushahr kingdom. Beyond Jeori, the valley narrows and you enter Kinnaur, where the road is carved straight into sheer rock faces high above the roaring river—one of the most thrilling stretches of riding in India.

Past Karchham and Reckong Peo, climb the final hairpins to Kalpa, a village of apple orchards, old wooden temples and slate-roofed houses perched high above the Sutlej.

As evening falls, step outside and look across the valley to the Kinnaur Kailash range, its snow-capped peaks glowing in the last light. Rest well after a long and rewarding day.

  • Unterkunft: Deluxe Hotel
  • Verpflegung: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 04: Kalpa – Nako – Tabo – Kaza (230 KM / 7-8 Hrs)

Wake to sunrise over the Kinnaur Kailash range, then descend to the Sutlej and ride north through upper Kinnaur. Past Pooh, the greenery fades and the landscape turns raw and dramatic. At Khab, watch the Spiti River meet the Sutlej in a deep, rocky gorge.

The road then climbs in a series of tight hairpins to Nako, a high village of stone houses beside a small sacred lake. From here, ride on past Sumdo into Spiti, the "Middle Land" between Tibet and India.

Stop at Tabo, home to one of the oldest continuously functioning Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayas. Founded more than a thousand years ago, its mud walls protect remarkable ancient murals.

Follow the Spiti River through a wide valley of cliffs and fluted rock to Kaza, the heart of Spiti, and settle in after a long and unforgettable day.

  • Unterkunft: Deluxe hotel / Boutique stay
  • Verpflegung: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 05: Kaza – Komic – Hikkim – Kaza (90 KM / 4-5 Hrs)

Today you explore Spiti at a slower pace, with a short, scenic ride around Kaza. Begin at Key Monastery, perched dramatically on a hilltop above the Spiti River, its whitewashed buildings stacked like a fortress against the mountains.

Continue to Kibber, one of the highest villages in the region, and ride on to Chicham Bridge, spanning a deep gorge high above the river.

Later, climb to Langza, known for its giant Buddha statue overlooking the valley and the marine fossils scattered across its slopes—a reminder that these mountains once lay beneath the sea. Ride on to Hikkim, home to one of the world’s highest post offices, where you can send a postcard home, and to Komic, one of the highest villages in Asia reachable by road.

Return to Kaza for a relaxed evening and rest well before tomorrow’s ride to the Moon Lake.

  • Unterkunft: Deluxe hotel / Boutique stay
  • Verpflegung: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 06: Kaza – Kunzum Pass – Chandra Taal (100 KM / 5-6 Hrs)

Leave Kaza and ride up the Spiti Valley past Losar, the last village before the climb. The road rises steadily to Kunzum La, approximately 4,590 metres above sea level, where prayer flags and stupas mark the pass between Spiti and Lahaul, with snow peaks surrounding you on every side.

Descend to Batal, then turn onto the rough track towards Chandra taal. The road is narrow, rocky and unpaved, with occasional stream crossings—pure adventure riding.

Park near the campsite and walk to Chandratal, the "Moon Lake", a crescent of impossibly clear water framed by mountains. Its colours shift from turquoise to deep blue as the light changes through the afternoon.

As night falls, the temperature drops sharply and, weather permitting, the sky fills with stars. Tonight, sleep in a camp beneath one of the clearest skies in the Himalayas.

  • Unterkunft: Deluxe camp
  • Verpflegung: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 07: Chandratal – Batal – Gramphu – Udaipur (170 KM / 6-7 Hrs)

Wake beside the Moon Lake and prepare for one of the toughest and most memorable stretches of the tour. From Batal to Gramphu, the road follows the Chandra River through raw, wild terrain—loose rocks, boulders, slush and fast-flowing water crossings fed by melting glaciers.

This is where riding skill, patience and teamwork matter most. Take it slow, follow the Ride Marshal’s lead and soak in the glaciers and waterfalls lining the valley.

At Gramphu, rejoin the tarmac and ride through Lahaul to Tandi, where the Chandra and Bhaga rivers meet to form the Chandrabhaga. Follow the river west along the Pattan Valley to Udaipur.

In Udaipur, visit the Mrikula Devi Temple, known for its intricate wood carvings, before settling in for the night.

  • Unterkunft: Deluxe hotel / Guesthouse
  • Verpflegung: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 08: Udaipur – Pangi Valley – Sach Pass – Bairagarh (180 KM / 8-9 Hrs)

Today you enter Pangi, one of the most remote valleys in the Himalayas. The road from Udaipur follows the Chenab River deep into a narrow gorge, carved directly into vertical rock faces high above the water. Every turn feels like riding along the edge of the world.

Reach Killar, the heart of Pangi Valley, where villages cling to steep slopes and life is still shaped by the mountains and long winters.

Then comes the climb to Sach Pass, approximately 4,420 metres above sea level. Expect a raw, demanding ascent—snow walls early in the season, slush, loose rock and icy water crossings. At the top, the views across the Pir Panjal are breathtaking.

Descend the far side through alpine meadows and forests to Bairagarh, a small village where a well-earned rest awaits after one of the most challenging days of the expedition.

  • Unterkunft: Standard Hotel / Guesthouse
  • Verpflegung: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 09: Bairagarh – Chamba – Khajjiar – Dalhousie (150 KM / 5-6 Hrs)

Leave Bairagarh and ride down through green valleys and terraced fields towards Chamba, the landscape growing softer and warmer with every kilometre.

Chamba, set on the banks of the Ravi, is one of the oldest towns in Himachal. Visit the ancient Lakshmi Narayan temple complex, with its carved stone spires, and stroll around the town’s historic Chaugan grounds.

Climb through dense deodar forests to Khajjiar, a wide meadow ringed by trees and often called the "Mini Switzerland of India". Take a break, stretch your legs and enjoy the views.

Ride on to Dalhousie, a hill station of colonial-era churches, old bungalows and pine-scented walks, and enjoy a relaxed evening after the wild days behind you.

  • Unterkunft: Deluxe Hotel
  • Verpflegung: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 10: Dalhousie – Dharamshala (130 KM / 4-5 Hrs)

A shorter, relaxed ride today along the lower Himalayan ridges. Leave Dalhousie and descend through pine forests and small towns, with the snow-capped Dhauladhar range rising ahead.

Arrive in Dharamshala and continue up to McLeod Ganj, home of the Dalai Lama and the heart of the Tibetan community in India. Visit the Tsuglagkhang temple complex, explore lanes full of monasteries, cafés and Tibetan handicrafts, and feel the calm spirit of this unique mountain town.

Spend the evening at your own pace, perhaps with a walk to the Bhagsu waterfall or a quiet cup of tea overlooking the valley.

  • Unterkunft: Deluxe Hotel
  • Verpflegung: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 11: Dharamshala – Mandi – Manali (250 KM / 7-8 Hrs)

The final riding day of the expedition. Leave Dharamshala and ride east along the foot of the Dhauladhar range, past the rolling tea gardens of Palampur and the ancient Baijnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Continue through Mandi, known as the "Varanasi of the Hills" for its many temples, and follow the Beas River into the Kullu Valley, where orchards and pine forests lead you back to Manali and the end of your motorcycle journey.

In the evening, come together with your fellow riders and tour team for a farewell dinner, sharing stories of cliff roads, high passes, hidden valleys and the incredible circuit that carried you through the wild heart of Himachal.

  • Unterkunft: Deluxe Hotel
  • Verpflegung: Breakfast and Dinner
Day 12: Departure from Manali

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and continue your onward journey at your own pace.

As you leave the mountains behind, you carry home more than photographs. You take with you the cliff roads of Kinnaur, the monasteries of Spiti, the stillness of Chandratal, the wild crossing of Sach Pass and the camaraderie forged along the journey.

The ride may be over, but the spirit of the mountains stays with you long after you leave the Himalayas.
