Dream Ladakh 2018

Nestled in the Trans-Himalayan region, in the state of Jammu & Kashmir in North India, Ladakh is a favorite spot for nature lovers and adventurous souls. Tourists from all over the world throng to this mountainous region to explore one of the less well-known jewels of nature.

Besides natural treasures, the region is also famous for its ancient Buddhist monasteries. Biking into and around Ladakh is the Holy Grail of biker-trails anywhere in the world. Terrifying mountain passes, thin air, the awe of the beauty around you no other route offers as much.

Although being the not much explored Ladakh has so much to offer the tourists visiting this Lonely Planet. The Dream Riders Group has gone deep to design various unexplored places and territories with the safety measures. Buckle up for the most precious bike trip of your life time. Stopover in sapphire lakes, rusty terrains, peaceful outback and almost anywhere your heart wants to.

Riding Route Details

Day1 : ARRIVE AT LEH

You could not have missed peeking out of the window at the Himalayas. A piece of advice from us, keep yourself hydrated and take medication on the flight to acclimatise your body to the high altitudes or you might experience adverse impacts of altitude sickness. The pickup arrangement would bring you to the hotel, where our team will assist you in checking in. It is Sunday for you; take rest instead of wandering the city. Let your body accept naturally the new environment. We will meet again in the evening to meet and greet the whole group followed by ride briefing and team formation.

Day2 : LEH LOCAL SIGHTSEEING

We let you get comfortable with the altitude. We let you wander exotics of the city. We take you to Shey Palace, Thikshey Monastery, ‘3 Idiot’ School, Hall of fame & last but not the least, Shanti Stupa. You witness ‘changing in a minute’ weather of Ladakh and understand why is it life so difficult there. Do not miss out the opportunity to try unique Ladakhi cuisines for lunch. Do not get too engaged shopping in Leh market, please get back to the hotel for dinner soon after sunset.

Day3 : LEH – PANGONG LAKE

The day starts with a mix of excitement and nervousness for riders as well as Bollywood enthusiast. We start riding away from Leh to Chang La pass; the roads do not let feel the bump in the bum for a while. Eventually, it reminds you where you stand. The Paagal Nala and roads remind you of BRO's witty boards.

Do not stop at every other point to take photos, unless you wish to miss the sunset view at Pangong Lake. You may not like where you stay – Camp or small cottage, limited & not so tasty food. But remember, whatever you are getting, it is a privilege transported from Leh market. So, forget everything; it is time for soul-searching in the beautiful blues.

Day4 : PANGONG LAKE – NUBRA VALLEY

Today we are riding on an incredibly moody road with a wide variety of terrains, changing every few kilometres. The road to Nubra will confuse you whether to look on the road or the beautiful view of oasis in the high altitude desert. I hope you never get confused. Who knew crossing a dry river could also be so painful says your touche while crossing Shyok River. What are the perks you get going so far- ride of a smelly double hump camel, bonfire, & music - a perfect way to nourish your vitals and soul at the Himalayas. Isn't it?

Day5 : NUBRA – TURTUK - NUBRA

It is the day when we explore an untouched destination. Today, we are headed towards the northernmost village in India - Turtuk. Fun Fact - The town was part of Pakistan until 1971. You have to turn into a writer to narrate the beauty of Gate to Siachen in words. You have to be there to understand rider's feeling of farthest village of India. Take it as an opportunity to explore the culture and hardship of locals who live with these extremities. Do not forget to take a snap with the mighty K2. We will return to Nubra valley in the evening.

Day6 : NUBRA VALLEY –KHARDUNG LA - LEH

Let's Go! We are leaving to witness a human-made wonder. A lot has been and is being said about Khardung La. We also observe a 50 ft tall statue of Maitreyi (Buddha). Even though the roads are broken, muddy and narrow, there is still a road to the highest motorable road for a civilian. While you ride for the hilltop, you understand the toil it takes to build and maintain a road at this altitude; the respect for BRO reaches a new height. Your eyes glitter by looking at BRO’s board of highest motorable road, the feeling is so difficult to express. ‘Mission accomplished’ You along with many other overly enthusiastic riders run for the customary photograph with the board. After the joyous celebration, we drive downhill for Kilometers, feels scary while looking at endless downhill roads.

We are back to Leh & oxygen.

Day7 : Fly back to Destination

With this sunrise, we mark a week spent well - exotic location, Himalayas, new friends who joined as strangers. We will bid farewell to fellow riders, sharing our unforgettable memories of the trip. We fly back to our destinations. See you on next ride. We will keep in touch. Bye-Bye. Julley.

Riding Route Details

Day1 : Arrival at Manali

Welcome onboard Rider. After the team assists you in checking in, we let you wander around the city if you have the energy left for. We meet once again in the evening to greet and team up with fellow riders on this adventurous journey to the Himalayas. There, we prepare you for expected, and the unexpected - the roadmap, riding etiquette, pitfalls, & heavenly views with cold weather conditions followed a tasty dinner. Now, you are mentally prepared. Go Baba! Have a good night.

Day2 : Manali - Keylong (120 Km)

Don't let you sleepiness make you late unless you want to stuck in traffic while riding alone on the narrow and serpentine road to Keylong. Ask an experienced rider & you will know, 120 Km trip is not short if it includes hilly roads and Rohtang pass. Even the 'bum ache' You will turn speechless by sceneries and breathless physically when you reach Keylong. Fill up courage in your heart and fuel in the tank; you are going to need these a lot.

Day3 : Keylong - Pang (190 Km)

As we leave for the zero fuelling station path, you might want to recheck the fuel level and high- altitude medication. If you are a rider by heart, you will enjoy riding on this ironic patch - toughest yet most beautiful. Please make your mind for this appealing death road as the thought of taking a U-turn might strike any moment. Apart from enjoying the scenery, drive safely through the freezing-cold water crossings and keep an eye on falling mountain rocks.

'Baam!' The Himalayas can catch you by surprise at any unexpected moment. Your shoulders and back would be so damn tired, your executive class body wouldn't mind sleeping at Banjaara style stays – cramped beds in a common tent. You can cook your own food outside with your trembling hands. You better be ready to dance when a fellow rider sings in the evening meet up.

Day4 : Pang - Leh (180 Km)

"Come on Buddy! I know this place is awesome, but what's coming next is better" says a fellow rider. We start riding away and close towards John Carters' Mars at the same time. One loses the sense of time riding on the endless road surrounded by Himalayan mountains. Although you wish to take multiple stops for photos, you can't because you just learned the lesson at Tanglang La & understand the 'Cold hearted welcome' at Leh if you reach evening.

'Yes! I reached' says your heart by looking at "welcome to Leh' board.

Day5 : Leh (100 Km)

'I can sense Oxygen. I am free to wander around'. On the leisure day, Feed and set free the lone wolf within to explore various parts of the Leh city, like the Namgyal Palace, Tibetan market, Shanti Stupa, Thikseymonestry, Leh Palace, Shey Palace and numerous monasteries.

"Our Suggestion - Get your accelerator wire rechecked. You may snap the throttle wire while pushing too hard on the best highway of the trip so far. We also come across the Magnetic Hill. Bieng the most beautiful stretch, you can’t help yourself taking photos and videos. Don't worry the breathlessness you felt were gifts from Fotu La (13478ft) and Namika La (12139ft). Slowly we descend towards the Kargil city.

Riding Route Details

Day1 : Arrival at Srinagar

Hi Adventure Seeker. Welcome onboard. If It is your first visit to Srinagar, we suggest you check in quickly with our team’s help and save time to wander the city. In the evening, we shall meet again, and exchange regards with the fellow riders. After the ‘Knowledge Overdose Session’ for the whole ride, feel free to ask as many questions as you want. After this difficult to bear hours, next comes tasty food and great sleep, you will be deemed fit for the ride.

Day2 : Srinagar - Sonmarg (80 Km)

Resfeber – add this word to your dictionary because you experience it in you when we start riding towards Sonmarg. ‘Oh yes! I am going to Ladakh’ says the heart by looking the clear waters of Sind. The distant mountains seem walking closer to you. You find yourself getting comfortable with the bike and the chilly weather on the relatively short ride. When we reach Sonmarg, the hilly surrounding of Sonmarg clarifies your doubt why it is called ‘Paradise on Earth’. We enjoy the meal at hotel gazing hills.

Day3 : Sonmarg – Kargil (140 Km)

Soon after we leave Sonmarg, we start ascending Zozi la, the infamous pass. Innumerous factors make the roads unpredictable and scary even for a local. It dares you to look below at the scariest George. This treacherous drive takes you to the second coldest inhabited town of Dras. Ironically to pain in your bum and shoulders, your eyes contend- ice, alpines, wild horse & the Himalayas. We stop at Kargil Memorial to salute our soldiers. You realise insufficient carb power as you cruise towards Kargil for nice dinner and stay. Do not forget to gaze at stars at night, if you did; you missed something stunning.

Day4 : Kargil – Leh (240 Km)

"We walk past the historic city to cruise on NH 1D again. Unlike yesterday’s terrain, we glide through two higher passes Namika La (12,139 feet) and Fotu La (13,478 feet). Lowered carb power or a headache is a mere symptom that you are flying high. For selfie break, you land your ride at the moon land of Ladakh- Lamayuru. ‘Why don’t I just become a monk?’ Don't tell the lady who governs you or your mom. Things are sure to go sour. The magnetic hill pulls you from Lamayuru. You better reach Leh before its dark; the killing temperature might kill you.

Day5 : Leh (100 Km)

Get acclimatised to high altitude and low oxygen. Those who don’t, literally fall to the ground. It is ‘Sunday’ for your body but not your bikes. Show your Dhanno explore various parts of the Leh city, like the Namgyal Palace, Tibetan market, Shanti Stupa, Thiksey monastery, Leh Palace, Shey Palace and numerous monasteries. Come back to the hotel in the evening for dinner.

Day6 : Leh - Pangong Lake (180 Km)

The day starts with a mix of excitement and nervousness for riders as well as Bollywood enthusiast. We start riding away from Leh to Chang La pass; the roads do not let feel the bump in the bum for a while. Eventually, it reminds you where you stand. We are back to Leh & oxygen.

Day10 : Leh – Pang (180 Km)

"It is time to bid farewell to Leh. We are headed towards Pang. You reach Tanglang La after riding 30 Km uphill. You can catch the breath while selfie and social media lovers click photos. There is ‘More re’. We again on the saddle and drive downhill towards Moray plains, India’s only share in the Tibetan plateau. Go crazy with lenses in natural light splashes on this high plateau. Pang is so remote and cold; it dares you to sleep without socks. Do not waste food here; it is a much-valued luxury. The best you find to lie down is Banjara style group tent. If you are cold proof, walk out of the tent & enjoy the vistas of nature.

Day11 : Pang – Keylong (190 Km)

"With breakfast in belly & you on the saddle, we start riding. As the customary goes, Dessert is served at last. You are headed to feast the fat dessert - water crossing’s, Streams & three high altitude passes (16,500 Ft Baralacha high mountain pass, 15,547 Ft Nakila and 16,616 Ft Lachungla Pass). It is less scary than Zoza La, but not less fun. You will not get a chance to be careless. In this 180 Km ride, you remember God many times. After dinner, you get to lie down on your bed at Keylong.

Day12 : Keylong – Manali (120 Km)

"This morning after breakfast, we are headed to explore Himachali beauty. You enjoy different colours of beauty in Manali highway, but at times, it reminds you of Ladakh. As if, you enjoy the company of the new girlfriend, but you still miss your ex. The twist and turns on the Rohtang Pass let you enjoy the last drag of the ride. Finally, we reach Manali to leave our machines in peace. A couple of rooms will allow you to freshen before we depart. We meet again after we freshen up to share memory cards and gossip the whole trip before we leave for our destinations. We came as strangers, slowly jelling-up, becoming friends for life. “It was my pleasure riding with you.” With these words, we head back to our destinations.
